Juha is a very interesting story set on the eastern border of Finland somewhere during the 1800's. Aho develops his characters very well and his descriptions are wonderful, even in translation. Readers who are somewhat familiar with Finland will especially enjoy this book but the story can stand alone and be enjoyed by anyone. Great writing is great no matter the nationality of the author or the setting.. I lived in Finland for a while and I am semi literate in the Finnish language and that was what drew me to the book. I certainly was not disappointed. It was interesting to read and learn about an earlier and very different life style portrayed very well in this work.
